August 15, 2022 Public Safety Hearing for Child Pedestrian Safety: Chase Six Boulevard - Campus Avenue Project
We wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who attended the Public Safety Hearing for Child Pedestrian Safety on Monday, August 15 at the Boonsboro American Legion. We had an excellent turn out and appreciate everyone in our community!!
Mayor Long led the discussion on the community safety issue on Maple Avenue and Campus Avenue, at the Boonsboro Educational Complex, and the absence of a traffic light and pedestrian crosswalks that would safely allow children to walk to-and-from the school campus and control frequent speeding on Maple Avenue.
As the Mayor mentioned at the meeting, the Town had a productive meeting with representatives from the Washington County Public School Board on Thursday, August 11th and we have an agreed-upon Concept Plan to use in planning the new intersection of Campus Avenue and Chase Six Boulevard. This will accomplish our goals of student and traffic safety. We are still in the conceptual stage, and we have not taken formal action on the plan and Washington County Public Schools has not taken formal action. Because of State Law, the County will need to be involved for purposes of any land transfers to or from Washington County Public Schools and we have not yet scheduled a meeting with the County. We are hoping that this process moves smoothly and is accomplished in a timely manner.
Again, thank you to everyone for your support and for attending the Public Safety Hearing yesterday. The Mayor and Council would like to extend a huge thank you to staff for all of their hard work.
